Music in Today’s World

I’ve been thinking about music today. What is music today? If you look at today’s music and described what you seen, how would you describe it? When I look at our music today I see more then the classic, “Sex, Drugs, Rock n’ Roll.” It’s like the “Sex, Drugs, Rock n’ Roll” all got together and had a baby that started doing crack and heroin 3 seconds after coming out of the womb. Seriously guys (and gals) music doesn’t have to be like that. Girls you don’t have to be showing off all that skin and talking about the guy you had come over and made out with and guys you don’t need to be talking about the half dozen girls you had sex with at some crazy party you were at. That’s not music. Is this what our culture…MY culture has come to?!? I have done some stupid things in my time yes but not what modern music is “singing” about. Who does the things that all these people are singing? Music is supposed to be something that you RELATE to. Who honestly can relate to all these rappers and rockers singing about all the dope and sex they had the night before etc etc? I think the worst part is all the young teens listening to these lyrics about killing people, killing themselves, sex, drugs, etc. and the parents supporting it by getting them the music and letting them listen to it? Do you want your children to come out that way? Anyways, WAKE UP PEOPLE! LISTEN TO THE MUSIC YOUR YOUNGER ONES ARE LISTENING TO! Odds are, you aren’t gonna like it…I know I sure don’t. I just read Paramore’s new article in SPIN Magazine and it was great. (and no that is not why I am saying all this stuff now this morning, I’ve felt this for awhile now and this article finally pushed me to write something about it) Hayley Williams (22, Lead Singer of Paramore) is quoted in the article with some great comments. She said, “Sexy doesn’t have to be a tan blonde girl showing off her goodies.” Ya know what that means? MILEY CYRUS PUT SOME FREAKING CLOTHES ON!!! You are only a young 17 year old girl. Instead you look like you should be standing on a street corner (which is of course wrong, just painting a picture) and there are tons of other girls out there (in the music business, in film, and at your local school) who need to stop looking at the “modern fashion” of looking like a “whore” (please excuse the language) and do the right thing. When girls dress like that they obviously attract guys, and that guy IS NOT looking at her for her personality I can tell ya that much. Parents, MAKE YOUR DAUGHTER PUT ON SOME CLOTHES! It’s not just a “stage,” if you don’t wanna become a grandpa before your girl is older then 16 then you will wise up. Where has today’s morals gone? Folks we need to look at what we are doing. Music is a good reflection of whats going on in today’s world. Go ahead and listen. Then after you listen look around, cause it’s happening and it needs to change. You wanna know what’s “wrong with the world today?” If I tell you will you listen? If you haven’t figured it out by now then you totally missed it and probably should re-read everything you just read, cause it’s in there AND how to fix today is in there too. Listen…Act…Change

Well, after thinking of the title of my “come back post” I am kinda in an awestruck moment. Looking up the lyrics to “Comfortably Numb” just thinking, “How many times to we get Comfortably Numb?” It’s kinda funny, we get into the mundane, day after day, stuff that we have to go through, and at the end of the day…are we living for the right reasons? I’m really not even sure what to say at the moment. So…

I can tell you that I was gonna say, “Well I am still here, I just kinda forgot about the whole blog. It actually turned 4 this month. I think I wanna get back into this blogging world again. I miss it. But does anyone really blog anymore? Or is it just all Facebook and Twitter? I’m more of a Twitterer then a Facebooker myself but thats besides the point, lol. If anyone still reads my blog (Seeming how I’ve been gone since 12/10/08) give me a comment. Let me know what you think or what you prefer. Are you a blogger? Facebooker? or Twitterer?” That’s what I was gonna say (which I guess I still said it, but you know what I mean).

Kinda just thinking…which I don’t know if that’s a good thing, lol. You guys just seen (well while reading this) God open up my eyes. I think I have become “Comfortably Numb” and its not enjoying or fulfilling at all. Have you become “Comfortably Numb?” Whether it be at your job, your relationship with your friend(s), your spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend, your volunteering at your church, your relationship with God…I think we need to go through our day to day routine and see what we have become “Comfortably Numb” to. What have you gotten so used to doing everyday that you just do it without thinking? Now taking out the trash when it is full is one thing, doing the dishes is one thing, those you most likely do without thinking. BUT, saying I love you to your loved one, praying to God, asking your friend(s) how they’re day went…now those are things that we need to go back and become UNcomfortably Numb with, we shouldn’t feel like we have to do those things, we need to feel like we WANT TO do those things because we care and love. So, shall we work to become UN-numb? Well all I got left to say is Wow. I just gotta say Thank You God for letting me see you and opening my eyes and you defiantly do work in mysterious ways, I mean Pink Floyd? lol

Hello blog world. I have missed you. I kinda ditched ya for a few months, so sorry about that. It’s kinda been a rough/awesome/learning/difficult/great couple of months. Some of the rough/awesome/learning/difficult/great moments are: I became our XLR8 (youth) Technical Director, my car threw a rod a week ago and can’t find an engine to put in it, Courtney’s phone has been being really temperamental and it finally stopped working the other day, Courtney and I started our Marriage Mentorship course, Courtney and I pushed the wedding date from March to possibly September (still discussing that, may be later), Courtney got promoted at work, Courtney and I started going to an awesome small group, the graphics card in our Xbox 360 got toasted, there is probably a bunch more stuff that I’m not thinking about. Ahhhh, it felt good to blog again. Hopefully I see you all soon (instead of 2 months later).

The Dark Knight…revisited

As said in my previous post, “…I am 99.99999% sure it didn’t swear at all…” I have been shown that it does. Which makes me think, have we became so subjected to swearing that we have just become completely oblivious to it that we don’t hear it anymore, its like a second language? Here is what the site said about the swearing, “Characters abuse Jesus’ name three times, God’s name a half-dozen times (once, pairing it with “d–n”). They lob a handful of other curses, including “h—” and “a–.” Now it says, “…lob a handful of other curses…” but I think I would’ve noticed a lob of swear words, so I don’t think that there was that many, but there could’ve been. I would love comments!

The Dark Knight

Well just back from seeing “The Dark Knight” and let me tell ya, it was great, like one of the best movies I have ever seen…great. Plot, Storyline, Graphics, the way the characters were wrote, most of it was like you were there, feeling what they were feeling, it was like watching a great book. I am definitely suggesting it to everybody and as a bonus, I am 99.99999% sure it didn’t swear at all…how many great movies, wait rephrase that, how many MOVIES can you say don’t swear? It is a must see.
